42° South is a heavily modified Reichel Pugh designed 2007 built GP42 (ex “Seawonder 007”) and finished in 9th place in the 2016 Fast 40+ season. The season highlights included a 4th place in the season opening Vice Admirals Cup, and a race win during Round 5 of the series in October. The 2016/17 winter season has seen the boat undergo a further extensive refit with the aim of a significant improvement on all points of sail, with particular emphasis on increasing righting moment and reducing weight. A fantastic crew line-up has been settled upon for 2017 drawn from sailors that crewed on the boat in 2016.
The name “42° South” derives from the 42nd south parallel of latitude that passes through heartland New Zealand and of course picks up the boat’s class designation. 42° South is flying the silver fern in the Fast 40+ class, showing the owner’s NZ heritage.
